For Tributes to Orlando. From anyone who knew him, loved him or respected him.

The Reason Why

Deeply shocked, as I had been working away for 3 years and never heard of the tragedy of the passing of Orlando, until now. I met Orlando in La Gomera, for The Atlantic Rowing Race 2007 and his fancy dress in the “Blue Marlin” had to be seen to be believed. We chased Orlando and Ben across the Atlantic for 55 days and finished 3 hours behind them in Antigua. Orlando and Ben helped us out of the boat, were among the first people that lit flares to greet us, and definitely were among the first people we had a beer with in The Galley bar, English Harbour, Jan 26th 2008. Deepest sympathy to family and friends. As with the blog of “The Reason Why”, I rarely write anything without a poem, and the following I dedicate to Orlando:
Where the wind blows, there blows He
To distant horizons, wild and free
Over the land and mountains high
Down rivers long and deserts dry
Across The Atlantic’s mighty flow
Fearless Go, Commando Go
Caught by the breeze that flys on high
Into the blue mesmeric sky
To distant horizons, wild and free
Where the wind blows, there blows he.
for Orlando R.I.P.
